Our daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when she was 16 months old. Our family is fortunate in that we have been able to afford her insulin and the other diabetes supplies she needs, which can be very expensive. But our health insurer is switching us to a high deductible health plan next year, which will make it harder for us to afford her insulin and supplies. I never thought we’d be in a situation where we’d have to pay thousands of dollars more in January than we did in December for the same medication to keep our daughter alive.
