I’ve experienced persistent insurance company denials for medications doctors have prescribed to treat my ankylosing spondylitis, a type of arthritis that affects the spine and other joints. When my doctor prescribed a dosage increase for my arthritis medication (for which there is no substitute), not only did my insurer deny the request, but they only sent the denial paperwork to my doctor and didn’t notify me personally. I also receive regular denials for necessary long-term medications that would improve my quality of life.  My insurer has never sent me an explanation or reason for the denials, leaving me totally in the dark as to why coverage for my doctor-prescribed medications have been rejected.
